Performance is all about learning and one of my favorite ways to learn is to write. Writing forces me to clarify my ideas, thoughts and concepts and put them in a format that is easy to understand. Of course, I love to share my writing! So feel free to download, read, think about, and share the following articles:

  • Performance in the Workplace Report This is the report of the findings of the 6-week Performance in the Workplace study I conducted in the fall of 2009, along with recommendations for how to improve your performance, and the performance of your employees and organization.
  • Focusing on Performance In this article I compare two different approaches to providing feedback to an employee – one focused on the person and the other on the employee’s actions or performance.
  • Managing Pressure Does putting pressure on a person lead to better or worse performance? Depends, right? I discuss the process of managing pressure in this article.
  • Performance Dialogue This article provides an example of a dialogue between an employee and his boss, with the boss talking in such a way as to bring out the best performance in the employee.
  • Performance Versus Results Results are what matter, but performance is what leads to results. What happens when one focuses on the results, rather than performance? My objective with this article is to challenge your thinking.
  • Trust in the Workplace Many people talk about the importance of trust between teammates and co-workers. This article introduces a model that you can use as a platform for trust-building discussions, and actionable tactics to build more trusting working relationships.
  • Values & Culture We all know that a company’s values and culture are important. But how do we develop them? This article provides a 6-step process for doing so.
  • What Are You Communicating to Your Employees Do you know what the two types of feedback are, how much of each you should provide your employees, and where it should given? Reading this article will answer those questions and make you a better manager.

Please email me with any comments, suggestions or feedback you have about these articles. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

And check back here often as I will adding other resources in the future.
